What is FSSAI?
The Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India, had established FSSAI under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 (FSS Act). This government body looks after the food businesses in India and checks if they follow the regulation specified by the government or not. Their work is to ensure that the food is unadulterated and as per the specified standards. Their job is to get rid of sub-standard food products. This organization is responsible for registering and licensing FBO or Food and Business Operators in India. Also, it also lays down the rules and regulations for running a business in India.

The online food delivery marketplace provides customers with the choice and convenience of getting food with a few taps on their mobile phones. Earlier the restaurants used to deliver the food themselves but the process has undergone a rapid change in the past few years.
Online food delivery platforms allow restaurants to make the most of both digital and traditional marketing mediums. Online food ordering apps allow customers to browse their favourite restaurant’s food with ease.

Importance of FSSAI in Listing on Online Food delivery Platforms
Every Food Business Operator must aim to provide satisfaction to the consumers by maintaining the quality and ensuring safety. Food safety and standards authority of India plays a vital role in establishing the procedures of control.
In order to list into any online food delivery platform, partner restaurants should take FSSAI food safety registration license. Without FSSAI license, these food delivery platforms do not allow partner restaurants to list into their application.
When do online food platforms remove your restaurant or food business from their platform ?
Your Restaurant in any of the online food delivery platform can be delisted owing to the following reasons:
Your restaurant doesn't have a FSSAI registration or FSSAI license.
The Restaurant has very poor ratings and reviews
The food served is of sub standard quality and not hygienic.
Too many orders cancellations occur from your end in the restaurant
Restaurants that have a GMV or Gross revenue above 12 lakhs and still registered under basic FSSAI registration will also be delisted. Please make note of the following types of FSSAI License one needs to take to get listed into these online delivery platforms.
Basic Registration - If the annual turnover of the business is less than 12 lakhs then the food business operator shall get registered with Registration Form A.
State Licence - If the annual turnover of the business is between 12 lakhs to 20 crores then the food business operator shall apply for State license Form B
Central Licence - If the annual turnover of the business is above 20 crores, then the food business operator shall apply for Central License Form B.
